Class description
This is a Wild Rice Retreat–hosted retreat, part of our thoughtfully curated programming. We proudly partner with skilled retreat leaders to bring guided experiences to our resort—designed to inspire, nourish, and support personal growth in alignment with our mission.
Discover the beauty, balance, and ancient symbolism of sacred geometry in this immersive hands-on workshop. Together, we will explore three foundational geometric symbols—the Seed of Life, the 12-Petal Daisy, and the Flower of Life—and learn how to construct them entirely by hand using only a compass, steady breath, and simple, intentional steps. The drawings will then be rendered into a beautiful mosaic mandala.
Students will work on three separate 12" × 12" sheets of grid paper, each becoming a complete geometric drawing. These drawings will become the energetic and structural foundation for your mosaic mandala.
You’ll learn how to let the compass “do the work,” stepping it point-to-arc in a natural rhythm that reveals perfect symmetry without measuring angles or performing any math. Each symbol builds upon the previous one:
The Seed of Life teaches the structure of creation through seven interlocking circles.
The 12-Petal Daisy expands from the Seed into a harmonious rosette using a total of thirteen circles.
The Flower of Life blossoms into a full geometric field, showing how energy expands outward infinitely.
With gentle guidance, students will explore both the artistic and meditative aspects of drawing these patterns. This foundational geometric practice prepares you for translating your drawings into radiant glass-and-gemstone mosaics, or simply enjoying the beauty of your completed sacred geometry artworks.
All materials for the drawing session are provided. No previous drawing experience is needed.
Takeaways from this Retreat will be:
- Understanding symbolism & energetic significance
- Accurate compass-based drawing
- Creative pattern-making
- Color theory + material energetics
- Mosaic building techniques
- Perfect for beginners and seasoned makers
biography
Shelley Beaumont is a Twin Cities-based mosaic artist who creates bespoke installations inspired by her lifelong connection to nature, science, and metaphysics. Growing up in Colorado, Shelley’s childhood was filled with wonder, exploring streams, collecting rocks, and marveling at the mountains and stars. These early experiences nurtured her fascination with geology, astrology, and sacred geometry, sparking a curiosity about the interplay of light and symmetry that would later become the foundation of her artistic vision.
After leaving a corporate career in her 40s, Shelley fully embraced her passion for mosaic art. Her work celebrates the beauty of movement, light, and geometric patterns found in the natural world, blending tactile materials with vibrant colors and reflective surfaces. Incorporating art glass, mirrors, gemstones, and crystals, Shelley’s award-winning mosaics draw on sacred geometry, color theory, and the healing properties of natural elements to create transformative, emotionally enriching pieces.
Shelley’s art has been showcased coast to coast, from juried exhibitions such as the National Fine Arts Show in Colorado to solo installations at venues like the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Her work invites audiences to explore layers of meaning, reflection, and movement while fostering a deep sense of harmony with the natural world. At the heart of her art is a belief that everyone deserves a living space that reflects their unique style and energy, a philosophy that guides her collaborations with clients to craft deeply personal, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Guided by intuition and inspired by materials she discovers during her travels, Shelley designs mosaics that are both functional and transformative. Each piece is an expression of her childhood wonder and connection to the cosmos, infusing light, energy, and healing into spaces. Through her art, Shelley creates sanctuaries of inspiration and comfort, celebrating the personal journeys and aspirations of those she collaborates with.
