Mark your calendars for Wild Rice Retreat’s annual Holiday Artisan Market—a joyful weekend celebrating local artists and makers with nourishing bites, mulled wine, hot cider, and live music. Enjoy hands-on holiday fun with wreath making, cookie decorating, and ornament crafting while discovering heartfelt gifts for everyone on your list. Community members are also invited to join us for dinner on Friday evening and brunch on Saturday for $34 per person, sharing in the warmth and creativity of the season.

Winter Windows Workshop

Join plein air artist Dana M. Johnson for a calming creative workshop inspired by the winter woods. Together, you’ll craft a personal concertina book, explore watercolor techniques, and observe the snowy forest views from the cozy Great Room at Wild Rice Retreat. On Friday, we’ll gather for tea, create our books, and enjoy a brief demo. Saturday is dedicated to painting, color exploration, and quiet observation. You’ll leave with a unique handmade keepsake from your winter weekend in the Northwoods.

The 72 Microseasons of the North & The Art of Noticing

Join artist-photographer Mary Jo Hoffman for two Immersion classes on June 6, 2026. Hoffman is known for “STILL,” her decade-long daily practice of photographing found nature—no subject too small or ordinary. A former aeronautical engineer, her ritual revealed powerful insights about place, connection, and creativity. Her book, STILL: The Art of Noticing—now in its fifth printing—features 275 of her most striking images paired with thoughtful, often humorous reflections from her daily practice.
