Class description

“Hope” is the thing with feathers – Poem by Emily Dickinson

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –

That perches in the soul –

And sings the tune without the words –

And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –

And sore must be the storm –

That could abash the little Bird

That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –

And on the strangest Sea –

Yet – never – in Extremity,

It asked a crumb – of me.

Join us for a weekend to ground,  nourish,  and stoke the creative spark with yoga, self reflection, nature,  writing, art making, and music.

October leaves ablaze and aglow in peak season during this extended retreat weekend to delve into themes of hope, creativity, and resilience. There will be movement,  fire ceremony,  art making & guiding,  discussion on the creative process, self-reflection in meditation and journaling,  and luxurious / enlivening yoga asana with experienced instructors.

Enjoy nourishing meals (vegan & vegetarian) from Wild Rice’s James Beard nominated NOVO restaurant, and be instructed & serenaded by award winning artists Sarah Brokke & Mary Bue.

We will venture into Lake Superior for a ferry day trip to visit Madeline Island,  journey into a collective songwriting experience with Mary to be performed on Saturday night,  and wander under the stars to a beautiful fire pit for a ceremony under the bubbly Gemini moon.

New in 2022: Our retreat begins at 4pm Thursday, October 13th offering an additional day to settle in for deeper rejuvenation and take advantage of Wild Rice’s world class amenities.   This is a weekend to rest, reflect,  create,  connect with wonderful humans,  wander the trails, bask in the beauty of Lake Superior, and SAUNA!

Everything is optional,  pick and choose as you wish.

At this retreat, we will spend time to gather insight,  reflect,  and release. How can we keep our creative fires burning for a healthy, productive, rejuvenating winter? How can we burn away what no longer serves our highest?  How can we nourish our inherent wellspring of Hope?   We’ll set intentions to enliven, focus on, and protect our brightest creative spark.

Wild Rice Retreat is naturally socially distanced and this experience is kept intentionally intimate for reflection and connection.

biography

MARY BUE – RETREAT FACILITATOR

I am a lifelong musician, traveler, poet, journal writer, vegan, Nada Yogi, adventure seeker, retreat guide,  solitude craver, and yoga instructor of 11+ years. I’m based out of Minneapolis, roaming this beautiful world as much as possible. I am grateful to be named “Best Songwriter” of 2020 by City Pages and have been writing music and performing since 1998,  with 8 albums out now! I believe deeply in the richness of a creative life that is ever unfolding. One doesn’t have to play an instrument, write a novel, paint like Frida, or write like Mary Oliver to live a creative life. Every moment that unfolds offers opportunities to make something beautiful. While this may seem like a lot of pressure, rest in knowing that potential is ever unfolding, even in the silent and restorative times (like sleeping!). I look forward to sharing this beautiful & inspiring place with you. Please let me know if you have ANY questions. I am pretty much an open book (most of which can be discovered in this website or listening to my music!).

AMY SWANOSKI – FIRE CEREMONY

Amy Swanoski is a self-identified Neo-Pagan Witch living in St Paul, Minnesota.  The esoteric has called to and fascinated her since childhood.  More recently, she has been working with intention to incorporate a spiritual practice in her daily life.  Amy is honored and ecstatic to have the opportunity to share her gifts and passions during the Fire Ceremony.

During this ceremony,  we will utilize the transit of the waning moon through Gemini and the theme of BALANCE.

Amy credits a large part of her shamanic journey to the teachings of Astrologer Jessa Walters, her therapist Maya Mineoi, as well as Psychic Medium Marcella Kroll.  Amy survives under capitalism with her day job in Ophthalmology where she enjoys practicing alchemy through science.  She also dabbles in yoga, pole dancing, and is an amateur Tarot reader.
