Class description
This new 3-day retreat is designed to expand your toolbox to combine metallic surfaces such as rust, copper, bronze and pewter with your encaustic paintings.
You will learn how to create rich, metallic surfaces combining Sophisticated Finishes paint and patinas. These paints contain real metallic particles such as iron, copper and bronze and offer rich patinas that oxidize.
These finishes create beautiful, rusted and patina affects on many surfaces and can be combined under or over encaustic paint. You will be inspired to add a variety of surface treatments including powdered graphite and metal leafing. These surfaces can be layered or be the final finish. The metallic paints bind on porous and non-porous surfaces.
You will create artworks that will develop your aesthetic and artistic voice with Encaustic.
A brief history and description of Encaustic painting will be discussed as well as basic supplies and tools, safety and preparation of substrates. There will also be lots of work time with individual feedback! The workshop is great for beginners as well as experienced artists.
THREE THINGS RETREAT GUESTS WILL WALK AWAY WITH UPON RETREAT COMPLETION:
- Create artworks that will develop your aesthetic and artistic voice with Encaustic
- Gain confidence in the medium and learn many mixed-media techniques
- Experiment and discover combinations of integrating paintings and metallic finishes
