Class description

Be inspired and push your work into new layers! In this exciting Encaustic with Photo Collage workshop, you will explore creating translucent, textured, layered paintings only achieved with molten beeswax.

This process involves printing photographs on light-weight tissue paper and embedding the image with encaustic (beeswax) medium and paints. You will learn many techniques and be encouraged to develop and expand your voice using this medium.

An overview of a variety of techniques will be demonstrated such as image transfers, mixing your own paint, creating texture and working with masks and stencils.

You will create artworks that will develop your aesthetic and artistic voice with Encaustic.

A brief history and description of Encaustic painting will be discussed as well as basic supplies and tools, safety and preparation of substrates. There will also be time for questions and answers! The workshop is great for beginners as well as experienced artists.

THREE THINGS RETREAT GUESTS WILL WALK AWAY WITH UPON RETREAT COMPLETION:

  • Create artworks that will develop your aesthetic and artistic voice with Encaustic.
  • Gain confidence in the medium and learn many techniques
  • Experiment and discover combinations of integrating paintings and photographs.
