This workshop promises hands-on experience, renowned architecture, and life long connections.In this workshop there will be experiences first hand with architectural photography. The class will work together and independently to photograph renowned works of architecture. We will discuss the theories and techniques to craft an architectural photograph. Corey will guide you on light direction, composition, lens selection, styling, editing, vision, and story telling of the images you craft. Importantly we will have class time to discuss the works created in class.
This course is for professional photographers, emerging professionals, and photography enthusiasts. A working knowledge of your camera and editing equipment is required.
biography
Corey Gaffer is an architectural photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Gaffer earned his BFA in Photography at the Peck School of Arts before moving on to an apprenticeship in Chicago with the renowned architectural photography firm Hedrich Blessing. Gaffer has since carried over his meticulous work ethic to produce photographs for clients around the world. “I am grateful to live my dream of waking up every day to work on and around photography. Building a photograph with a client brings me immense joy.”

You do not need to make large purchases for the course. We will be working together on images at times and can share.
Please reach out with concerns regarding equipment.
Camera Equipment
⁃ A Digital SLR, Digital mirrorless or a view camera with digital back
⁃ Tripod of choice
⁃ Lenses - Ideally you will have various focal lengths to work with during the workshop. I use lenses ranging from 17mm-200mm for my Canon Mirrorless camera. Most of these lenses are PC (perspective correction lenses).
⁃ Digital Memory Cards with reader ( Multiple cards with at least 16gb recommended)
⁃ Power Adapter and cables for Digital Camera
⁃ Batteries and charger for rechargeable batteries
⁃ Filters or gels if you have them
Lights
I will be doing some interior demos with lights. If you have lights bring a small kit with you to use. Ideally 2-3 lights. We will be working in groups on interiors so lights can be shared. Architectural interiors often use supplemental lighting to get the desired effect.
My kit includes
3 - strobe heads with light modifiers (umbrellas, gels, grids).
2 - Lowell Omni lights
1 - 300 watt focusing spot
Necessary stands and cords
Digital Capture
Laptops are required.
Participants are expected to have a working knowledge of editing software on a laptop like Capture one, Adobe Lightroom, Bridge or Photoshop.
- Power adapters, battery, and cables for laptop
- Mouse and mouse pad (highly recommended, not required)
- An external hard drive for backing up images at the end of the week is recommended
Transportation
We will be going off site for demos a car will be needed for travel with your gear to various locations.
