August 2-7, 2026 Go back
At summer’s zenith, halfway between the Solstice and Equinox, we’ll come together and revere the fullness of the season with a week of replenishment and celebration. Set in the verdant forests along Lake Superior’s southern shore, we’ll bathe our senses and come alive with yoga and meditation, connection with one another, and allow Nature to guide us. A key aim of our time together is to honor ceremony and adventure. We will commune with the elements and the depth of the land and water of this peninsula - merging our practices with the environment. There will be optional excursions to the surrounding area, beaches, and Apostle Islands.

Class description
Join Amie Heeter and Fannie Hungerford for this soul-quenching and heart replenishing 5-night/6-day retreat nestled along Lake Superior’s shore. This retreat will include several spokes on the wheel of yogic practices, including movement, breath, meditation, yoga nidra, self inquiry, and plenty of time to wonder and wander in nature. All levels of practitioners are welcome as we dive into the teachings of yoga and its experiential practices.
Yoga as a sacred tradition brings us into a deeper connection with Life; harmonizing our inner and outer worlds and expanding our sense of self and what gifts we have to offer. The heart is a supreme space across spiritual traditions, and connection with this space is a primary aim of many practices, moving us from a limited/individual perception to one of universal awareness and recognition inseparable with the Divine. In the yogic tradition, the spiritual heart is named Hridaya, which translates to “that which gives and receives in perfect balance.” Our capacity to both receive and give from this inexhaustible well of inner knowing, innate love, and belonging is what yoga is designed to unlock. Through direct experience, we know we are not separate, and we thrive with greater compassion, creativity, and freedom.
Let’s swim, replenish in the forest, and rest in the supportive surroundings of this exquisite retreat space. Each day we will offer an emergent weaving of practice, free time, and opportunity to explore the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
Fannie and Amie recognize the felt and sacred charge of this region is due in part to Lake Superior's indelible presence and also to the longtime stewards of this region known as the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. They have called this region home for generations.. A portion of the received profits will be donated to the tribe to honor them and their part in protecting and shaping this place.
Three take-aways:
- A deep sense of replenishment in body, mind, and heart after a week with yoga practice and the medicine of Nature.
- Embodied knowing of the inner compass of awareness we all hold, and the vast seen and unseen support that holds us all.
A greater acceptance of yourself, in its wholeness and interconnectedness with the vast world of which we are a part.
biography
Amie Heeter is a nature enthusiast, adventurer, and life long learner particularly motivated by the intersection of mind/body traditions of the East and modern research sourced in mindfulness and neuroplasticity in the West. A yoga and meditation teacher since 2004 and currently holding 500hr certification, she regards yoga, meditation, and mindfulness as some of the best systems available to sustain health in our body, cultivate stability and resilience in our mind, and open pathways to the luminous heart.
Amie received her first teaching certifications in 2003 and 2004 through the Integral Yoga Institute. In 2007 she began studying with Rod Stryker and received Parayoga certification in 2014. Mentorship with Parayoga offered significant training with the subtle practices and profound impacts of pranayama (breath practice), meditation, mantra, and yoga nidra (non sleep deep relaxation). These studies led her into the wisdom of Tantra, Ayurveda, and the Sri Vidya lineage of the Himalayan Masters. Amie continues to study with teachers, including Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of the Himalayan Institute, and emergent teachers such as Tracee Stanley and Indu Arora among the dozens she’s received from over her 20 years of study. Nature was her first teacher, and continues to be an intimate part of her practice and inspiration. Amie hosts group classes, various Yoga Studies and wellness courses, leads regional and international retreats, and works privately with individuals.
